Our Company

When service counts, you can count on the reliable personnel at Brown’s Gas Company. We keep our staff well-trained and updated to provide you with the best service available. They are always kind, courteous, and looking out for your safety. It’s no wonder we’ve been voted “Best of Yuba-Sutter” for the last 10 years (and counting!).


Our Company History

Brown’s Gas Company, Inc. was originally known as Town & Country Gas and started serving the Yuba-Sutter area in 1945. Elwin (Bob) and Lois Brown moved here in 1960 and purchased Town & Country Gas, changing the name to Brown’s Town & Country Gas. They were very active in the community and it was their mission to make sure that all customers were treated with common courtesy and respect. They believed that all customers should be treated alike and that quality of service should not be based on length of service or amount of fuel used. They developed a system that would treat all customers equally and believed that outstanding customer service would ensure customer retention. Customer service became and remains the main focus of Brown’s. As time went on, the Town & Country part of the name was dropped and the business continued as Brown’s Gas Company. In 1979, they purchased property in Oregon House and added a bulk tank to better serve all of our foothill/Yuba County customers from a more central location. Like many local businesses, the flood of 1986 affected Brown’s Gas Company and our office was eventually moved from Linda to Marysville where it remains.

In 1999, Beverlee McFarland took the company reins and continued her parents’ traditions. With the same principles and values instilled by her parents, she was driven to make sure that all of the customers’ needs were met and that the employees were treated as a family. Bev always wanted to be on the cutting edge of industry safety and ensure that Brown’s Gas Company was in compliance with all the regulatory agencies. She implemented continued industry and safety training for all employees as her addition to her parents’ legacy. In 2005, she incorporated the company as Brown’s Gas Company, Inc.

Today, under the leadership of the third generation of family in the business, Brown’s Gas Company, Inc. still follows all the values and principles put in place by its founders. We eagerly look forward to having our family serve yours.

“We’ve used Brown’s Gas’s Keep Full service since we moved here 10 years ago. Our service technician lives right up the road and he takes great care of us. He knows we don’t use much propane in the summer and we use more in the winter, and he keeps our tank filled appropriately. And we can tell when he’s been here because all the debris has been cleared away from the tank. I know our tank is safe because he does a visual inspection.
